About Us

The Education Quality Improvement Project (EQuIP) was launched October 03, 2018, and is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Government of St. Lucia. This initiative is geared towards the comprehensive enhancement of St. Lucia’s education sector, and entails four (4) core dimensions:


Component 1 – Improvement of the teaching and learning environment

Four project schools will go through construction and/or rehabilitation works, as well as the procurement of furniture and equipment. These projects school are:

  • La Guerre Combined School
  • Vide Boutielle Primary School
  • Gordon & Walcott Memorial Methodist School
  • Sir Arthur Lewis Community College

Component 2 – Improvement in teacher quality and instructional Effectiveness

Under this component significant attentions is paid to teacher professional development through a range of in-service training initiatives, as well as short-term and degree-level training.


Component 3 – Enhancement of System Leadership and Operational Effectiveness of School Administrators

This component focuses on the professional development of Principals, Education Officers and Administrative Officers within the Department of Education.


Component 4 – Enhancement of the provisions for Special Needs Education in St. Lucia

Under EQuIP there is significant emphasis on catering to the needs of Special Education Needs (SEN) children and encouraging the full participation within St. Lucia’s Education sector by improving physical access to schools; provision of in-service and degree-level training programs for SEN teachers, and the provision of assistive devices to enhance instructional delivery for SEN children in schools. The project also seeks to implement support structures for parents of SEN children.


Component 5 – Technical Assistance

Provisions of a Climate Vulnerability Assessment of the four project schools, and the development of prototype guidelines for use in climate vulnerability assessment of schools nationally.
